The Nancy Walker Quartet

Toronto pianist and composer Nancy Walker is the winner of the 2008 National Jazz Awards Keyboardist Of The Year Award and the 2003 Montréal International Jazz Festival’s prestigious Grand Prix de Jazz. A 2006 JUNO nominee, Nancy has several discs as leader to her credit. Her latest release is New Hieroglyphics, showcasing eleven of her original compositions, and featuring her quartet members Ted Quinlan (guitar), Kieran Overs (bass) and Ethan Ardelli (drums). Nancy can also be heard on recently released recordings by The Kirk MacDonald Jazz Orchestra, Fair/Galloway Quintet, Swedish guitarist Mikko Hildén, and The John Geggie Trio with Donny McCaslin (this Plunge Records release garnered rave reviews and made several “Best of 2010″ lists).

Thanks to grants from The Canada Council For the Arts, Nancy has had the opportunity to study with renowned American pianist/composers Fred Hersch, Jason Moran, and Myra Melford.

“Nancy Walker has played enough piano to know how to keep listeners interested however hard she pushes the boundaries of familiarity. Her 11 original compositions on New Hieroglyphics are often fiercely inventive, while some amazingly seem ripe for dancing.” Geoff Chapman, Whole Note Magazine
Joining Nancy will be Ted Quinlan on guitar, Kieran Overs on bass and Ethan Ardelli on drum.
